Leaving your lights on just burns power. Make it a habit to turn off lights when you leave a room and you will be amazed at how such a small thing can save you money.

1. Turn off your lights

Leaving your lights on just burns power. Make it a habit to turn off lights when you leave a room and you will be amazed at how such a small thing can save you money.

2. Wash your dishes by hand

Dishwashers chew electricity. If you only have a few dishes - wash them by hand. If you really are that lazy and have to use a dishwasher then at least use only wash mode (save the drying mode) and this will cut back on your electricity consumption.

3. Turn off the TV

As a Toowoomba Electrician, it is quite often that we have to go inside someones house. If only I had a dollar for the number of times I see the TV on and nobody watching it - I would buy a luxury yacht.
Turn of the TV - it numbs the brain, eats electricity and in essence empties your pocket.

4. Turn off gaming consoles when not in use

I make my kids do this. Xboxes, Playstations and Nintendo’s these all use up energy when they are turned on. Turning them off will not only save power but also prolong the life of your console.

5. Upgrade to knew energy star rated appliances

Nothing annoys me more than old appliances that are ineffective and actually waste electricity. If your fridge is old and you can afford it - upgrade to an energy saving appliance.

6. Get your appliances checked

Seriously - next time you have an electrician around - ask them to check any older appliances you have. You may have something that is not only wasting the juice but also quite dangerous as well.

7. Don't use your microwave to defrost food

Stop being lazy ! Get food out of the freezer in the morning and put it in the fridge for your evening meal. Save electricity - save the planet - save money

8. Hang out your clothes - don't use a dryer

Clothes dryers are actually really bad for your clothes. Crank up the hills hoist - it was invented here, make use of it. If you have to use a dryer, untangle your clothes before putting them in - this will cut down on the power consumption.

9. Got a bar fridge - turn it off when it's empty

Don’t get me wrong having a spare fridge under the house is great - but if you only have a few things in it - turn it off and move those things. A fridge using lots of power - more than you think. Actually come to think of it - in winter this Toowoomba electricians beer fridge is turned off.

10. Stereos (especially amplifiers) drain energy - turn them off.

Everyone loves a bit of music - but leaving the music machine on drains juice and costs you cash. Do your self a favour and turn it on only when you are using it.

So there you have it - 10 ways to save money on your electricity bill !
